"La Guardia"

(La Guardia Airport, New York, Friday, 2nd July 1999 4.17 p.m. )

I had a feeling that the wireless modem device I use would have a network in La Guardia airport, and I was right. It's such a cool device - made by a company called Metricom. It only works (mostly) in the Bay Area as they have their own private network, but it also works in some airports.

As an aside, I've noticed that people are really nosey (I'm not sure if that's a word in the U.S. - it means rudely curious). They see me here on a laptop with an antenna sticking up and a tiny cam attached and think I must be up to no good. :)

It looks like I'm getting out of New York just in time - another big heat wave is due tomorrow - 95 degrees! Mind today was bad enough. Yet another fun-filled day with my friend Paul. Today we schlepped over to Sears in Queens to buy an air-conditioner. Could this be a case of familiarity breeding contempt? We took a car-service and the driver basically took charge and helped Paul with the great big device while I looked helpfully on. When I left Paul's apartment an hour ago, Paul was still stuck on top of a ladder trying to leverage the thing into the hole atop his back door - good luck Paul.

I hope I don't end up this trip as a big fatty. So far, I haven't been running once. I was supposed to go this morning but it was so hot and muggy I feared for my life. :) Well better go as they will be boarding soon - see you in Toronto.
