"Toronto"

(Toronto, Saturday, 3rd July 1999 6.30 p.m. )

I arrived in Toronto after the short flight from La Guardia and the first thing I began to notice was the lack of restrooms in the airport and the curious sight of a uniformed women at each intersection of the coridoor leading from the airplane to the customs inspector whose only function appeared to be standing around with knowing smiles. Things in Canada in general are just a little bit different I guess.

After giving my bad-tempered taxi-driver directions to where I was staying, I finally got to Eric & Eddie's house. I'm still not entirely clear why Kevin and I are staying here rather than at Kevin's place, but I'm sure there's a good reason. In any event, Eric & Eddie have been very welcoming. Not to mention that Eddie's a cutie, but ... well ... they're happily married, sigh :)

Last night we had dinner all four of us together and then Kevin and I went out for a drink. I can't honestly say that I cared at all for the first place we went to, called Woodies. But then I'm not a bar person. We found a restaurant to sit at and drink wine, which was much nicer - just sitting in the humid evening watching the people pass by.

Today we went up the 1875 feet CN Tower, with it's glass floor.

Inevitably, we went shopping - I don't think I brought enough luggage with me, before heading back to Eric & Eddie's place for a barbecue this evening.

Tomorrow I'm in the air again - en route to Scranton, where I pick up my rental car and head out on the freedom of the open road!
