| "Trying to Become a Social Animal" |
So I thought I'd give extroversion a try and here's my verdict - it's fun but it takes too much time. I'm being silly of course, but I did have a busy, social weekend, deliberately steeling myself to take people up on invitations that I might recently have turned down, hermit that I've been of late. But I feel so far behind on everything else. For example, I'm further behind on email than I've ever been. (Forgive me if you wrote to me over a week ago and I haven't written back yet!)
This busy buzzing around has been accompanied by fatigue left over from my trip back from Irvine. When I last checked in I was boarding a flight to San Jose. Fortunately for me, the flight was redirected to San Francisco since there were so many San Francisco passengers on the plane. Even so, I didn't get home until half past midnight, over four hours late.
Saturday morning was catch up time. Catch up with sleep a little, do some errands, catch up with my life. I went to Trader Joes and bought my two-week supply of Protein bars, went to the gym, yadda yadda.
The weather chopped and changed all day. The streets were wet when I got up, but the rain had stopped. Nevertheless, there was no question of playing tennis. The sun did come out eventually, before vanishing again amidst a sudden and violent rainfall.
The rest of the day was spent in going over to the Metreon to try to buy tickets for the new Bond movie, going to a housewarming party for my friend Tony's boyfriend Peter, having dinner with Brett in the Castro, and actually going to the Bond movie (which was fun and exciting).
On Sunday afternoon, I finally had my third date with a guy I've dated off and on (mostly off) for the past three and a half months. We were both very tired so we didn't even get out of his apartment. But I can't think of a nicer way to spend a sleepy Sunday afternoon.
Finally, the weekend of socialization concluded with a wonderful dinner at John Franks, a new, fancy restaurant in the Castro, with Hunter, someone I'm getting to know from work. We shared a bottle of wine, and had a bunch of laughs.
Looking back on the weekend, it's been a lot different than normal for me, of late. A lot more social activity and, as a result, less time for introspection. And I enjoyed it - I think. But I'm soooo wiped out!
