| "Back to the Castro" |
The night before moving, and a large percentage of my life is packed up in boxes.
Just a very quick hello. This weekend I finally moved from my tiny apartment in the sky over San Francisco Bay to a much larger garden apartment above the Castro, San Francisco's gay neighborhood. From Fridays through Sunday, it was three days o usting work, even though I had a moving firm for the day of the move itself. And even now, two days later, I'm still more tired than I have been in many months. On my first evening spent in the new apartment, I caught myself in the bathroom mirror ticed that the wrinkles on my forehead were more pronounced than I'd ever seen.
Still, it's done, although I have somewhat mixed feelings. On the morning of the move, as I looked out at my fabulous view for the last time, I almost felt tearful at the thought of giving it up. But then, on the beautiful Sunday afternoon after ove, I had not one, but two friends drop by the new apartment. During two years at my old place, I never once had a friend spontaneously drop by. Now though, I'm in a real neighborhood. The first few blocks down 18th Street towards Castro Street a ightful; beautiful Victorians, flower gardens, and cute little stores and cafes where people actually recognize you. And the sound of songbirds singing. The apartment itself is beautiful and spacious. In fact, I'm so unused to having so much space after living in a studio for a year. I even have a laundry room big enough for a queen size bed!
Of course, right now the place is a mess with boxes everywhere. Quite when I will have it all pulled into shape I'm not sure, because I'm still very busy working on preproduction of my movie which will shoot the weekend of October 19th. In my la rnal entry I mentioned that I had screwed up the one and only rehearsal because of a sudden, unexpected business trip to Kansas City. Well, a week passed without hearing from my cast members, and now I'm not sure that they are both going to be avail or the two days of the shoot, so I may have to recast.
Anyway, I have to fly off right now for a medical appointment, and then I'm hoping to go running tonight for the first time in almost a week. Moving is definitely not good for your health!
