"Maryland"

(Washington DC, Thu, Nov 29, 2001, 10:15 AM )

My stay in DC is ending this afternoon, after an extremely busy week. I don't recall the last time that I ate out socially five nights in a row; boy do I need to get back to the gym. Last night I had dinner with Eric at Fuzio in Dupont Circle, and managed to restrain myself to just eating a salad. After five days of heavy eating, I couldn't face more rich food. I couldn't resist sharing a plate of tiramisu, though.

Yesterday was a fairly horrible day, actually. I slept poorly the night before, and felt wretchedly tired all day, with heavy eyes. I was feeling out of sorts in my mood too, and sat through the class in a sullen, disconnected mood. The classroom was hot, and the two guys to my right blabbered incessantly to each other in loud voices making it hard to concentrate on the instructor. I ate a horrible lunch in a place called the Woodside Deli. What a truly awful place this section of town is. I think I'd honestly cut my throat if I had to work here. In fact, I've talked often of wanting to move to DC. The most obvious way of doing that would be to transfer to our Maryland office. But, no-no-no-no-NO!

My flight isn't until five tonight, so I have the morning and early afternoon to just take it easy. I went for another run this morning, the same route as last time. It's still warm, but no longer sunny. There was a damp, greyness to the sky, and the fading brown trees looked chilly as I ran through the woods. As is usual when I travel, I was thinking of new ideas. I always seem to get my best ideas when I travel. Nothing astounding this time, but I did decide that I need to completely redesign my resume, since I'm not getting any response to it when I send it out.

Well, I'll see you back in San Francisco, I guess. There's another big storm hitting San Francisco, apparently, so I'll probably be bounced around in the sky again on the way home. And then back to work tomorrow. Ugh. Come on Keith, stiff upper lip and all that.
