| "Jed To Move Back East?" |
Another "work at home" day for me today. Actually, my company does not encourage working at home. However, my newest boss works in Los Angeles, so I can't imagine he cares. I'm now on my third boss in as many months, due to the perpetual reorganization taking place within my company. We seem to be going through rather massive growing pains. A few weeks ago the President of our North American division resigned. This was followed a week ago by the President of the whole company.
San Francisco seems to have had something like fifty percent of this winter's rainfall over the last two weeks, and this morning was little different. An elegant, grey pall of heavy clouds has been hanging over the city all day, and only now is it finally letting loose some rain. It's fairly warm outside, however, and I enjoyed being out in it on the balcony. There's a oneness I feel with the world when the weather is grey, warm and wet like this. It's not easy to put it into words. I stare out into the grey city, hear the swish of automobiles through the puddles. It's evocative of childhood, and distant Summer holidays where a rainstorm hid suddenly, and you huddled with your family under a big green tree, laughing.
Jed and I have begun to talk a little about our future, now that we know where he's going in August. The University where he'll be taking up his position is pretty darned remote, and the likelihood that I could find a decent, paying job anywhere close is very small. For the moment, then, we're thinking that I'll stay here, and we'll each travel once each a month to stay with the other for a long weekend. Jed really doesn't want to leave the Bay Area, and that has tempered substantially the joy he should feel at getting such a great opportunity. I don't want him to leave either, so that makes two of us!
