"The Fatigue Thing Once More"

(San Francisco, Wednesday, 12th April 2000, 8.51 p.m. PST )

Although I've been generally happy these last two weeks, I've also been feeling very run down, so much so that I've even had to take evening naps. It's kind of dragging me down, despite my high spirits. Anyway, I tell you this simply to explain why there are photographs today, but not much text! (Maybe some of you are saying, Thank God! :)

It's funny, each time I write an entry here, I wonder what on earth I'll find to write about next time. It's not as if my life is really that interesting, so I always think that some day I'm going to be stumped. It hasn't happened so far - something always seems to present itself. What happens more often is that there is something I want to write about, but I'm too tired. That's the case tonight, for sure. So I thought I'd just, as a novelty, explain what I had in mind when I took each of the photos.

Because my office is a bunch of blocks West and another bunch North of my apartment, there is an almost endless number of different routes I can take to work. The one commonality of all of these routes is that there's a Starbucks on every block! I've counted at least ten within five minutes walk of my apartment! But I'm starting to notice things I've not noticed before, like this sculpture in the Embarcadero Center (you can just see the tip of the Transamerica Pyramid behind).

There's an extended series of plazas and walkways extending through the Embarcadero Center and across the street towards where I live. They're impeccably kept, but oddly deserted most of the time. This was taken around 9.00 a.m. on a workday!

Stephanie's mother-hen looks are deceiving, because she's one of those people you can't talk to without either a smile or a smirk on your face. Every conversation is laced with sarcasm. She's one of our two admins at work.

If you look behind Telegraph Hill, you can see the fog rolling across the crest of the hill behind it. Whenever I see that site, I can't help but think for a second, that it looks like an enormous tidal wave just about to crash down on the city.

You know, I thought the worst of my move was over. But I still hadn't notified friends, family and businesses of my new address. So odd moments during the week have been spent navigating interminable voice mail menus. If I hear "our menu has changed" one more time ...!

Tuesday had started cold and windy, so it was a surprise when I came out of work to find that it was warm and humid. I was particularly glad though, since I was going running that night. After my run, I went out on the balcony to enjoy the evening airs. I'm still not used to having such a luxurious view spread out before me.
