"Back Home Briefly"

(San Francisco, Saturday, 18th September 1999, 6.08 p.m. PST )

So I'm back home, very briefly, before heading off on another trip to rain-sodden our headquarters in the south. It was nice knowing you San Francisco :)

Boy, it's amazing how different it is being here. I have noise from the neighbors during the day, and, every night except Tuesday and Wednesday, noise from the club at night. Both Thursday and Friday nights, I slept miserably. In fact, Thursday night I called the police twice to complain about the club, and last night I had to sleep in the living room.

Still. I'm slowly coming to some conclusions. I've decided I'll try to stick out the duration of my lease and spend that time saving so that I have enough for a down-payment for a condo or small house next year. I'll move my bedroom to where the living room is now, which is quieter at night, and I'll try to persuade the landlord that the family downstairs does not belong here. Selfish, yes, but it's me or them, and I was here first.

I suppose this has been a couple of days of morally ambiguous choices. Since, for the first time in a long time, I have non-exit-row seats on my cross-country flight to the airport serving out headquarters tomorrow, I've been thinking about the agony of squeezing my 6 foot 6 bones into a seat for four plus four hours that's designed to barely fit someone who's five foot nine. So I went out and bought a walking stick, and tomorrow, when I check in, I'll limp up to the check-in and hope they'll take pity on me and find me somewhere more comfortable to sit. We'll see :) See you from our headquarters in the south!
