Let's just pretend that yesterday never happened, for the purposes of this journal. I woke up feeling extremely tired, went into the office, had a single morning meeting, and then a three hour lunch break, during which I actually went back to DC, then a further couple of blathering meetings, before taking the metro home finally around 4.00. I felt so drained, coming home, and kept falling asleep. Every minute or two I'd anxiously wake myself up to make sure I didn't miss my stop.
I was so tired that I decided to do nothing for the evening, except stay in the hotel, order pizza and watch a movie.
Today started in a similar vein. I confused the starting time of my first meeting, and arrived in the office an unnecessary hour early. At least today was short, and I was free as a bird by noon. I called Jerry, a lovely guy I'd met here last time at a dinner party given by David and Kevin, and we made a valiant effort to take a public tour, at the Pentagon. However, despite the pleading looks we directed in the direction of the cute tour guides, they were sold out.
Instead, we took the subway one stop to Arlington National Cemetry. I had no idea that it was so emmense. Rows of white grave stones stretching across gently undulating lawns into infinity. We stopped at Kennedy's grave, which surprised me by its plain beauty.
At the nearbye Robert E Lee house, I received some beguiling smiles from an admirer and obligingly took her photo. After they'd gone, I discovered and handed in an abandoned hand-bag, but didn't realize it was theirs until I got home and looked at this photo.
By the time Jerry and I got back to Dupont Circle, we were both tired and hot and I decided to get some coffee and retire to my hotel for a snooze. On the way, I stopped to sit for a while in one of the cute, tiny parks that occasionally fill the awkward spaces made at some of the intersections where the diagonal avenues cross over the other streets. This one was dedicated to Sonny Bono.
Back in the hotel, I crawled onto my bed for a lovely afternoon snooze. At seven, I met up with the D.C. Frontrunners, a gay running organization, near Dupont Circle. David, Kevin, Jerry and Dennis (the guy I ended up staying with last time I was in DC after I reacted badly to David and Kevin's cats) are all members. It was lovely to meet up with Kevin again - he is such a sweetheart. We had a nice, leisurely run along the canal path.
After our run, Kevin's boyfriend and Dennis joined us, and we all went out for dinner at Fuzios. The end of a lovely afternoon and evening, all in all.
