"Getting Antsy"

(a city in the south, Wednesday, 18th August 1999, 6.42 p.m. )

Tuesday was a quiet day, and so was Wednesday pretty much. I'm getting antsy to return to San Francisco, where I've only spent one week out of the last seven. I haven't been sleeping well either. I feel like I need a vacation, which is ridiculous, because I haven't done any REAL work in weeks! I think it's all just, like I said, the feeling that I want to go home - I want my mummy :)

Speaking of my Mummy, I made a fairly radical decision the other day. I've pretty much decided that I'll probably spend the Millenium New Year's Eve with my parents. I haven't seen them in a few years now, and it's about time. I have to make sure they don't have some wild plan up their sleeves first. It would be ironic if they told me they were going to spend it in Hong Kong or somewhere equally exotic! I think that's unlikely as my mother's never even been in an airplane :)

Class today was uneventful. The teacher introduced us to a new piece of software we make, that can be used to build cool web applications that permit "data mining" - a fancy term for a certain type of data-exploration. One of the first things we did as a class exercise was to customize the default colors for any applications we were going to build, and it was funny how people chose their colors. One guy, an obvious extrovert, who'd been boasting at break time about how he'd joined our company fresh from personal bankruptcy, chose a vibrant yellow for his background. Another guy, a rotund, gentle, married guy, with a petite moustache and and an effeminate lilt to his speech, chose a delightful, pale blue. I chose a cool, sleek grey - not sure what that says about my personality :)

Another day of class
Another day of class

When we came out of class, it was hotter than hell, way too hot to go running, so I finally went swimming, and put in about 35 minutes or so of laps.

And that's about it, really! Not too much else to say. No date with Taylor last night, unlike what I'd hoped for, since he flaked on me (men are snakes in the grass, as my mother used to say :). And no plans for tonight, since I'm dog tired. Will order in some room service, watch some TV, then go to bed. Zzzzzzz
